Pate’s Grammar School
The brief was to create an inspiring new Art and Music department suitable for
delivery of the national curriculum and to upgrade existing sixth form facilities. The solution, an extension to the west, follows the form and massing of the existing building. Materials pick up on those of the existing school but add a contemporary feel. The roof, supported on specially designed trusses, is defined by a series of northlights which provide high quality daylight for the art department. The music department comprises a variety of rehearsal and teaching spaces designed to meet acoustic standards. Approximate contract value £1.5m.
